I'm With PETA On This One

Wherein I drop the F-Bomb. Repeatedly. I dunno, I guess PETA just brings out the worst in me.

At first, I had mixed feelings about this story.

But then I got to thinking...

On the one hand, wouldn't it be really nice to have a National PETA Shuts The Fuck Up Day?

On the other hand, imagine a roomful of animals in cages, as the water in the room continues to rise. For me, the horror of that mental image only barely falls short of the horrible mental image of human beings dying slowly and helplessly.

I'm inclined to say that in this case, fuck yeah make the University confront its callousness.
I'm actually all about humane treatment of animals, up to a point.

If testing SARS vaccines on monkeys is the best/quickest way to eliminate SARS as a serious threat to humans, then so be it. But by all means treat those poor doomed monkeys as well as you can, and euthanize them quickly and cleanly as soon as you have your research data.

Any university whose lab animal evacuation plan is "well, it's a major natural disaster, so we're justified in beating feet and letting our slave races die a slow, horrible death"... fuck 'em.

I say, at that point they deserve PETA.

On the third hand, maybe PETA should sue themselves, for not working with the university in advance, to provide the resources, know-how, and warm caring hearts necessary to save all those poor creatures...
