It is a sad day for me... because after learning the Beck is a member of the cult/church of Scientology, I can't respect him anymore. It has cast a shadow on his career for me now, and there are probably people reading this that can't understand why his "faith" would change the way I feel about him as a performer and such. I mean, I can basically accept a lot from a performer, an actor and not judge them, but it is this one thing that I can't get past.

There is just something about the group that I can't stomach, and I've been vocal about my dislike for the group in the past. I think the part of me that is most bothers me about this whole thing is now Mr. Hansen will become part of the Scientological hype machine to try to indoctrinate others into the group, and given his indie appeal, it is as if the cult is going to acquire new cache amongst a group of people who might have otherwise ignored or spurned them.

I always knew Beck was a little nutty... I just didn't know he was THIS nutty. I am sure Courtney Love is going to have some wild stories to tell him as a fellow cultist.

God damn it. They must give the stars pretty decent kick backs if they got him too. Or, as you suggest, he's really lost it. I'm seeing him in a couple of weeks and won't be able to look at him the same way.

I really liked that movie "Bowfinger".  That whole "Mindhead" thing reminded me of the Scientologists.

Maybe Beck can make a funk/techno/rap musical version of "Battlefield Earth."

While I share your views on Scientology, I don't hold anything against Beck for holding them. It's his right, after all!

Damn you Gideon for being even handed and fair! Us crazed music fans don't allow our idols to be human and actually have their own opinion. Not mention, Scientology will hope to have credibiltiy Beck's fanbase. I think he's married to Giovanni Ribsi's sister, Marissa. Giovanni Ribsi (one of my favorite actors) is also a Scientologist.

Well, I never really liked him much anyway but until he starts sounding like Tom Cruise and John Travolta, I'll let his cult status slide. ;~D

I always knew that Beck was an alien but I love him anyway. He is one of the few unique voices out there.
