I'd venture to say that the rest of the world finds Americans very, very weird. If we locked ourselves into a room with a 100 diverse people from around the world and we had our internet connections, laptops, and jill e bags, they would look at us and be amazed. We'd be one of the 2 or 3 people in the room that has all of that. Over half of the world makes $2 a days and we are spending 10 to 20 times that on hannah montana backpacks and high school musical party supplies. It almost seems crazy. If we see a dollar bill on the ground and we have to go out of our way to grab it, we probably won't. The majority of the world would see us do that and call us crazy. 53 out of 100 live on about that per day. I want this to really hit me, because then it may actually transform my way of thinking and even better, my way of life.
We are filthy rich compared to the rest of the world, but most of us would say we are not even wealthy. Being rich puts us at a serious disadvantage spiritually, because Jesus says it is so hard for the rich to enter the kingdom of God. Which makes it all the more important for me to see myself as rich and be on my knees constantly begging Jesus for help in not letting my wealth grab ahold of me.
