Today the department of homeland security raised the terrorist threat level to orange (again). That means we should all be alert. However, simply by having that wonderfully, color coded system, does it not make us more alert anyway? In a survey taken by NBC, new york city residents said that they were not going to change their daily routines in any way. So is this "rainbow of danger" just an insurance policy for the goverment. It seems like it is more a monday quarter back move so that they can say, "we told you so." Granted, it is very important to let the populace know when there is a threat. But still, it just seems like we have heard it all before and it is getting brushed under the rug of news right next to the murders and traffic accidents that we hear about everday. If the goverment wants to make this system more prominant, why don't they just light up the empire state building with the color of the alert, otherwise it will all be forgotton with a click of the remote.
