Well, this is my first entry into the Joe User world. I have been reading MarcieHelen's blog for awhile now. She used to be my roommate until this last May, so if she happens to see this..... hi (burp)
I am not sure what I am supposed to write about this first time so maybe I will just introduce myself so whom ever should end up reading this. I live in Fargo, ND. I grew up in Casselton, ND (just 20 miles from Fargo). My parents also live in Fargo and I have one brother who also lives in Fargo. I am currently attending MSUM and am majoring in photography. This is a whole story in and of itself, and I will probably write about it at another time. I have two cats that are like my children. Chance is 10 and Storm is 5. At this time I do not have any other pets but I have had birds, dogs and fish at one time or another.
Hmmm... what else? I love to read. If I have the time, I can sit down and start a book and finish it that same day (provided I don't wait to get up until 3pm). I enjoy all kinds of books but my favorites are fantasy & sci fi. My favorite authors are Anne McCaffery, Anne Rice, and Jean Auel. My favorite books are the Dragon Riders of Pern series by Anne McCaffery, the Earth's Children series by Jean Auel and the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling. When my grandmother died a couple years ago, she left me her book collection. Now most people would think that these books would be great collector items. Well, most people did NOT know my grandmother. She was obsessed with Harlequin Romance books. And I mean OBSESSED! She never threw away any book and she was a subscriber to Harlequin for over 40 years. You can not begin to image how many books that is. Harlequin did not just come out with one book a month, they had (have) a bunch of different branches and each of those branches would put out a book a month. So, let's do some basic math here. IF there was only 1 book per month for 40 years that would be 480 books. Now lets say that there were AT LEAST 5 different branches each month. That is 5 books per month for 40 years, which would equal 720 books. Now I know that my grandmother had WAY more books then 720. So when I found I was the proud owner of them, I was not sure I wanted to be. There was no way I could take possession of that many books. I mean, I live in an apartment and have a small collection of books myself (as MarcieHelen can attest to). So, I had to go through all the books and decide which ones I wanted to keep. Many, of the really old ones I gave to my Uncle to sell at a Flea Market but I did keep about 100. Of the more recent books (and when I say recent I mean from 1990 and on) I kept about 200. Again, the rest I gave to my Uncle. It took me 3 days to go through all those books. As of today I have probably read about 50 of the books and of those 50 I have maybe kept 20. The rest I did not like and again gave them to my Uncle. I still have tons of books left to read but one day I will get through them all. They are a nice fast read for when I just want something different to do. I can usually finish one book in about 4 hours. They are not hard to read at all. The really old books (from the 1960's) are really different. The ideas and the way women are portrayed is so different from the more modern books. It is neat to read these books and think that 30 or 40 years ago my grandmother was reading the very same book.
I also love to watch movies. HUGE movie fan. Again, I love all kinds of movies but my favorite are horror. My favorite movie of all time is LadyHawk. But some of my other favorites are The Last of the Mohicans, Speed, The Craft, Rebel Without A Cause and A Walk to Remember. But there are actually a ton more I love. I really love some of the older movies and am always watching the AMC and TCM channels.
I enjoy photography (which I would hope was a given since I am a photo major) and anything that has to do with it. I love taking pictures, developing pictures, editing pictures on the computer, hand coloring pictures, and scrap booking.
I LOVE the cold! And I am not being sarcastic. I really do love it. I DON'T like ice, but snow and cold are fine with me. I don't like rain all that much simply for the fact that it is so gloomy. I don't know what it is about me but I seem to have very hot blood. My mother was like this when she was my age so it might be a genetic thing, although now my mother is always cold. Not me! I am ALWAYS hot. I went to school the other day and it was only about 50 degrees with a wind that made it feel colder and I still wore shorts and a tee-shirt to class. Outside I was on the cool side, but once I was in the classes I was sweating. So maybe it is a blessing that I live in ND where the weather can get really cold. A lot of people complain about the weather here but I really enjoy it. I have not met too many people with this same opinion but they are out there.
Let's see... what else? Well, I love Italian food and the Olive Garden is my favorite restaurant. I like hard rock music. I can't sing but I do know how to play the piano and flute. I am a control freak and like to have everything organized and in its place (except my bedroom - that has its own sense of organization called 'throw it anywhere you want'). I am sure there are more things I could write about at this time, but I think I will stop for now. I am looking forward to posting new articles and reading other peoples. So until later... Good Night!
