We have three cats, all of them shelter cats, all of them fixed. Our oldest is really the miracle, as she was taken to a shelter by her owners after she scratched one of their children (she was kneading a shoulder and licking the child's neck). All they needed to do was keep her nails trimmed, but they got rid of her instead. Most owner-surrendered animals don't have much of a chance, as shelters are not required to hold them as long as stray animals before euthanizing them. Luckily, our girl was taken by the shelter to a PetsMart adoption center where we found her.
