My youth comes to an end...

It's not really that bad, but my 22nd birthday is coming up, and that signals the end of my excuses for frivolity and general dopeyness. People will now expect me to behave in accordance with the unwritten rules of the emotionally suppressed and boring

It's hardly my fault that I'm a bit daft. I am suspecting that I actually have fibromyalgia, because from what I have read, there are some strong correlations between problems that I have been having and fibro.

Anyway, that's not the point. I wrote earlier that I was considering starting a wedding planning business with some friends. Well, I've decided to have a cocktail party, and what better event to cut our teeth on than something on which we can't get sued over for doing a dodgy job! As if we'd be less than perfect

but this has great potential to be fun.

What I'd like to do is get in contact with event planners and see what their take on the business is, because I am aware that my view is exceptionally rose-coloured at the moment. No amount of birthdays will ever kill my optimism, but I like to see the whole picture, get a realistic view of it.

I'm also thinkiing of doing this copywriting course with Michael Masterton, because he certainly seems to get results with his students. Copywriting, while not exactly what I had dreamed of doing with my life, is certainly something that every business needs - I'm not kidding, I've seen some shockers in my time. If anybody reads this who knows something about Michael Masterton, could you make a comment please?

Both event planning and copywriting are miles away from my real qualification, psychology. Could this be a viable plan, to change careers so early, or is it just a pie in the sky fantasy?

i say go with whatever is in your heart -- if event planning and copywriting is what it is, then go for it! what's more i think those two vocations would complement one another well.

it's interesting you mention fibromyalgia. i had never heard about it until last week when i wrote a story about it. they say it is characterised by muscle pain and is often linked to chronic fatigue syndrome. is that how you've been feeling?

My mother had a breakdown and started exhibiting symptoms that I thought were related to chronic fatigue, but the doctor told her that it was depression. One of her friends has recently been diagnosed with it, and mother brought home some pamphlets about it. She suspected that she has it, and I think she's right, but when I started reading about it, I felt alarmed.

For the last five years I have had difficulty concentrating for any long period of time, I have difficulty sleeping (not least of which is due to an inability to get comfortable), and when I went to the neurologist he simply said that there was nothing wrong with me.

Although the general muscle pain has not been so much a problem, I have had internal muscle pain, resulting in the sensation of all of my internal organs pressing down on each other, since I was a child. My mother thought I was lazy, but standing in the same spot for any amount of time caused me this discomfort.

I have had the heartburn problems the pamphlet mentioned, quite severely in fact, and I find it very hard to get started in the morning. Some days at work are a complete write off because I am either unable to concentrate or too tired to function - and I usually get between six to eight hours, so I do get sufficient (although broken) sleep.

Additionally, I burnt out mid-2000, and had a mini-break-down and temporary depression midway through last year. I have also developed a new allergy to cats and especially dogs, which I have never had in all of the years that I have grown up with animals. There are all of these things that have hit in the same time frame, and it just seem like too much coincidence.

There are other symptoms listed, but I want to go to a doctor and see whether these things are connected.

wow that sounds pretty serious. the woman i spoke to said many doctors aren't familiar with the condition. this may sound nutty but i seriously recommend you seek out a good church who will pray for you. medicine and even alternative therapies can only do so much, but your Creator knew how to make you and he knows how to fix you.

the story has been published in the regional newspaper i work for called the Queensland Times. it's doubtful that you would be able to get your hands on it in SA and unfortunately it's not available online. the story was a piece on the woman and her family but didn't have much detail about the condition. even so, i may still have the text of the story around, and if so i am happy to email it to you if you give me your address. or email me: [email protected]
