This is an excellent plan. Our school does something similar, but not to the extent of iPods... We issue our entire curriculum in the form of both actual textbooks, but also converted to CD with all the audio in mp3 format. We also issue our students mp3 capable portable cd players. We also have smartboards and projectors in every classroom with satellite cable that pulls in channels in most of the languages that we teach here (3 Korean channels). Our multimedia labs are wired to allow in instructor to present class to the students at each computer. They have headphones with mics and they can be grouped to talk/listen as a class or in small groups. The lab is also wired to the net, so the students can do research. So much technology... the true challenge is utilizing it properly and not just turning the lab into a 'movie room'...
Sorry, I think I hijacked there a bit... I'm just a big fan of technology in the classroom...
