Hi All,
Yesterday I ran three miles with my son along a towpath through fields of various kinds. I enjoyed this run, not only because I saw a blue heron up close, but also because I ran it with my son who has been so far away for so long. Its good to have him close by. Very good.
In the middle of this little trek, I did a tempo paced run for about twenty minutes. A tempo pace is about two minutes faster than my long run pace and aids with the development of speed endurance and the body's ability to deal with lactic acid.
After that run, I drove to a friend's home, a guy who is rather sedentary. He just lost both his parents to death. So, I pulled him off his couch and we walked easily for three quarters of a mile.
I finished the day with an arms and shoulders workout using heavy dumbbells.
Today I walked through a particularly sandy and hilly desert trail for about a mile with My Little Honey. Trails are the best. Far away from houses, without concrete, and right there with whatever critters are there...one just feels alive. I especially like how trails treat my muscles. Because of the irregularity of the terrain, your feet, ankles, and legs get a great workout. For example, on this short hike, I waded through lengthy sandpits, scrabbled up steep hills littered with small rocks and ruts, sand scampered along gravel like patches with large rocks hidden just beneath the surface. Later today I have to do my leg workout.
Tomorrow its a three mile river run. I think. Then chest and back with weights.
See ya!
