Good Morning All,
I have not been posting regularly to Team Zen, which includes my Penguin Runners and Walkers Group, sorry to say. Yet, this does not mean I have been a couch potato. The day after our Summer 5k race I walked a 2.75 mile walk and swam some laps. This morning was supposed to be speedwork. But I am still recovering from my little race. I jogged/walked 2.25 miles and will be heading to the pool shortly.
I have been substituting thirty minutes of yard work each morning Monday through Friday at the Zen Center for a weight workout. Not as effective, but exercise none-the-less.
This morning I felt really sluggish out there on my run. I really should have had an Accel-Gel before I left, but I didn't, nor had I drank any water. (Very Foolish Monk) So, about halfway around our circuit I said to Training Partner, Katie, that I was feeling light-headed and we did far more walking than anything else. When I got home I drank a protein smoothie I made in my blender and that helped.
Anyhow, I was talking to some friends last night before Zen and we decided to begin training for the Baylor Pass Run in November. Beginning next Saturday we'll hike./jog the trail up to the crest and back. I think we should do this every other Saturday or so along with some other trail running and hillwork. Baylor Pass is an exciting, rugged, trail run that slips over the Organ Mountains at its low point. I think the elevation is about 6000' or just under. I have wanted to do this run for several years but was always either somewhere else or in a odd place in my training cycle. So, this year is a good year to do it.
Take care all,
