In a video created by the "We Are Family Foundation," many cartoon characters are used to promote tolerance. I'd like to remind readers that "tolerance" does not suggest that you need to agree with a particular set of values or lifestyles, it simply means that you will tolerate them. Tolerance, I should also point out, is a far step from acceptance which is really what the progressive community should be striving for.

I think this article should be severely edited. Everytime "Christian activist groups" are mentioned in this article I think it should be replaced by "Christian Extremist Groups." Just as when Jerry Falwell ousted Tinky Winky as the queer Teletubby, these people and their rediculous claims cannot suggest they represent the views of reasonable well-meaning mainstream Christians.

Any Christians are free to disagree of course.

If Spongebob can encourage kids that being gay is (*GASP!*) okay, then they'll probably want to be gay too right? And in turn they'll probably carve out a pineapple so they can live in it at the bottom of the sea in Bikini Bottom too. Oh the horror, so many gay kids will be drowned at the hands of a bucktoothed talking sponge. If Spongebob was gay, would he really live in Bikini Bottom...I mean...come on!

It being his knee just doesn't make any sense. He's not even moving, and yet there's activity happening down there? Perhaps it was meant to be his knee, and Disney artists just can't draw

It sounds wild, but i read somewhere that people lost their jobs over the priest thing in the little mermaid. I didn't believe it either until someone forced me to go frame by frame. If he isn't sporting wood I dunno what else to call it.

According to those who have seen the teacher's guides, this goes much further, creating awareness of homosexuality, and attempting to defeat "myths" involved. Given those "myths" are mainly religious beliefs, an attempt to defeat them passes far, far beyond "teaching tolerance". Telling kids in public school that their religion is wrong is heinous, and hijacking cartoon characters to do it is even worse.

I am definitely curious what "myths" they wish to defeat and how defeating such myths might interfere with religious beliefs. I really hope this isn't going to be another creation vs. evolution debate.

Perhaps it was a little bit of protest from poorly paid asian cartoonists working for Disney.
