Feel free to skip ahead to the actual story.
So it's been somewhat of a story-filled week this first week back to school (work) since the kids had their winter break. I've been having to endure the elements outdoors at recess despite the bitterly cold weather but luckily there was enough excitement to keep my blood pumping and with warmer temps on the way I'm happy to say that I've just about made it through it.
Today is the warmest it's been week and this morning's temp was 5 degrees -10 windchill. But in order to stay with my committment to bike commuting one day a week through the winter I toughed it out and made it despite the headwind that I was traveling in the entire way.....ugh!
THE STORY:
Nothing to exciting had been happening on the playground, at least not from what I could see through my fake fur trimmed hood I had pull over my hat and the scarf that was covering my face nearly up to my eyes. But as I scanned the playground I noticed a young girl sort of stumbling and went over to investigate. She looked a bit disoriented and I could tell something wasn't right.
"Are you okay"
"I...I...think so....I'm....just feeling a little woozy. Yeah...really.....woozy."
"Well, alright, let's bring you in to the nurse so she can make sure you're okay."
"okay."
We begin slowly making our way to the door just as a large group of kids began pouring out of the school since their grade had probably just been excused from the lunchroom to recess. Many of them came up to say hello and wanted to see why I was helping this girl walk.
"What's wrong with her."
"I'm taking her to the nurse, please get out of the way."
A small crowd of 1st and 2nd graders gathered around to try to catch a glimpse of the action (just like those damn gawkers on the highway). The girl who I was helping stopped at this point and started to bend over.
"Guys, back up."
(as I felt a tapping on my back)
"Why?"
"Back up now!"
"Why?" was repeated just as the girl began to throwup.
"Yeah, that's why."
(harder tapping on my back)
"Whoever is tapping me is going to have to wait."
"Groooooooooooooooooss!"
The poor girl nearly fell over from being so nautious and I had to catch her with one hand while I took out my radio to try and get a principal to come assist me. The assistant heard me on the radio and happened to be outside herself and started to help the girl to the door.
I finally turned around to see who was tapping me to see another little girl I knew very well sobbing her eyes out.
"What's wrong?"
"I thut thigh tong on a pole," she said with her bleeding tongue still sticking out.
Which erupted into more sobbing. I called to the assistant principal, who hadn't gotten very far at this point, to take this girl with her as well to the nurse.
Everything was pretty quiet after that.
Anyway, gotta go clean all the road salt off my bike and get ready to head on to my midday job before its back to the afternoon and evening job and then a day off before I work at my icerink job which will primarily consist of playing little kids in hockey.
Cheers,
