The SR-22-filing is required by the DMV to get your license back after a Drunk Driving ( DUI ) or Reckless Driving. Many people don't understand that they need to keep their SR-22-Filing for a specific term designated by the people over at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Typically, a driver is required to keep the SR-22-Filing for 3 years. But the big question is - When does that 3 year period start? It really varies. I recommend that anyone who is looking to sign up for an SR-22-Filing call the Drivers Safety Unit at the DMV to see when they are eligable for a regular drivers license (or if not eligable for a regular license, when they are eligable for a Restricted License. The number for the Drivers Safety Unit of the DMV is (916) 657-6525.
