Personally I think that E3 is just that tad bit pointless and needs to go away for a very long time. I mean I'm all up for the show of new tech for games, it's just that at this point I would rather not go for the ultra realism of todays gaming market. I mean who wants realism when you can go across the stars with a little Italian plumber.

I generally don't watch E3, just read about it later; if there's only a couple games I'm interested in, I don't want to sit and watch demos of other junk. I'm particularly excited about Nintendo unveiling the 3DS. If they can actually pull of decent looking 3D without the glasses, that would just be incredible. Plus, if the rumors are true that is is more powerful than the current gen of consoles... wow (I doubt it actually is, but it would be impressive, even more so if they can keep the price down).

Best part is that E3 hasn't even technically started yet. Tuesday is the first "offical" day, but some companies like to get a jump start.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. If Microsoft wants to take part of Nintendo's market, which they obviously do, they're going about it all wrong. The $150 pricetag for Kinect alone proves that. Add $200 for the basic Xbox360 and $60 for a Kinect compatible game, and the Wii is looking even better, especially when you consider none of it's games go over $50. If they wanted to be competitive, Kinect should be under $100 at least, probably less.

Nintendo proved that targeting casual gamers+low pricetag+not quite as amazing hardware can be very successful. MS is trying to do the target the casual gamers part, but they forgot about the rest of that equation. They went for cutting edge technology, which means high cost, which will ultimately drive people away.

The laser tag was not a bad idea, I for one never go out to play it, so I thought it was a bit of nice idea. If played right kenict ca be a nice money maker.  What I was disappointed most about is what the fuck did nintendo do to KIRBY!

Well, I've managed to watch them all now.

Holy crap, Nintendo is back in a big way.  I'm almost tempted to pick up a Wii now, though I'll still probably not, however they've sold me on the 3DS completely.  The line up of Third Party Support is massive and from the general impressions I've read it sounds like Nintendo have freaking nailed the 3D and use it to create a truley unique and immersive experience that their competitors will, once again, be left scrambling to catch up to.  It's got everything I want and more, and if the price is right I'll add yet another Nintendo hand-held to my collection.

I thought Microsoft was going to be the loser this year, however luckily Sony swept in there and showed them how to do it properly.  While nowhere near as laughingly bad as Ubisoft's piss-poor attempt at a conference, Sony underwhelmed on everything.  Instead of showing the world what Playstation 3 is all about and how the next year is going to be a great year to own a Playstation, they instead detailed what Nintendo and Microsoft are doing on their consoles and then showed their efforts to replicate that as best as they could.  Playstation, as a brand, just lost some serious points.  They're just copying everyone else, and badly.  How sad.

Microsoft, in respect to the other conferences, didn't really do anything wrong, however they didn't excel.  They're the middleman in this generation, and they almost seem to be wanting to keep that position.

And Valve signing up with PS3?  Jesus, let the Valve monopoly begin.  How long before Console games need an internet connection to 'activate'?  I'm quite seriously concerned and shaken by this annoucement.

After looking at all the info flooding around regarding the 3DS, it's literally the most impressive console I've ever seen.  If Nintendo can secure half of the titles hinted at for launch in 2011, they'll have one of the greatest launch line ups of all time.  It's strange when a new Handheld is vastly more impressive than the major consoles, and packs games that look to be a lot more fun!  Mario Kart 3DS?  Sign me the hell up!

Even though I don't console game anymore i still pay some attention to E3 for all the new gimmicks and such. The gimmicks though were the downside this year. At this point the consoles are getting old, sales rates are slowing and obviously MS and Sony have no new real hardware to show. Instead we get Kinect with things like Kinect Sports(sound familiar?) and an almost blatant ripoff of the Wiimote in Sony's Move. Nintendo is the only one that seems on the ball showing not only new hardware, but an upcoming lineup of all their winning franchises. I wish Sega were still around. They may have had some outlandish and undoable(for the time)tech, but at least they weren't showing things that have been done for years and calling it new.
