This surprised me. I just got my disk about a week ago and I am smitten. I have played 10% of this game so far, according to the in-game documentary, and I have spent 24 hours of non-stop enjoyment so far on it.
I am talking about the RPG Dragon Age: Origins.
You should understand that I am not a Bioware fanboy, although I DID really enjoy Baldur's Gate 2. I despised Neverwinter Nights and Icewind Dale and have not played a Bioware game since. Boy am I glad I changed my mind and listened to the hype.
What is great about this game? The attention to detail, the love. The fact that each face, each character, is really, really different. The way the characters' eyebrows move. The way that EACH spoken line is voiced over in good to excellent quality. The fact that I am spending more time reading and talking than hacking and slashing -- and it is NOT bothering me. The fact that I can, but need not spend all my time on minimaxing, but rather have some sort of emotional feel. It all feels right.
This game has soul like no game since Planescape: Torment, Fallout 2 or Deus Ex 1 has had.
May Elemental cut off a slice of this love, this soul and store it in a shiny place, somewhere down deep, and embody it upon release.
