Today the perfect grandson is 7 weeks old. He was 6lb, 6oz at birth; 6,4 at 2 weeks; 6,14 at 3 weeks; and today he is...wait for it...11lb, 5 oz. JLO has taken to calling him her Chunky Monkey and reports that he has grown into all of his wrinkles. Good thing I am working out so regularly--otherwise I'd never be able to lift that baby up when I see him!!! They had some family photos taken last weekend and I am anxious to see them.
KT has been offered an impressive promotion which would make her a manager, and that is the part that is a bit intimidating--can she effectively manage people, let alone 8 of them? Does she want to give up doing something she loves? It's always a difficult situation, to be offered something like this when you haven't actually sought it out, but she is a smart cookie and will be able to be honest with herself about what she wants and what she feels her real talents are. It is gratifying as a mother to see her hard work and abilities recognized and appreciated.
Things on the home front are quiet. The heat and humidity are here--and this is early days yet. I know I survived it last year, but I'm already having a lot of trouble sleeping. Is there nowhere that has a truly perfect climate??? Not too hot, not too cold, not too buggy, not too humid...etc. The tomatoes are thriving and if we actually get all of the ones that are growing, it will be a bountiful harvest. Last year, aside from planting too late, we did not get to eat a single tomato; either the squirrels or the birds beat us to every one, and there weren't many to begin with. Some of the herbs have come back, and the husband requested mint as well, so that went into a pot today. The peppers are just starting to take off, now that the weather is hot. As I fade, they thrive!
KT arrives in a week (okay, a week and a couple of days) and I am so ready for her to be here. A week won't be long enough. It is such a blessing to enjoy my girls so much... JLO has 2 baby showers this weekend. Hopefully they will get a lot of gift cards at the store they registered at, as they would like to buy a glider chair (for those middle of the night feedings) that is pricey, to say the least.
Tutoring remains a challenge. We are working on practice exams and it is not going well. The time limit is one issue, but answering the questions correctly has been hit or miss so far--no consistancy. For next week I've thrown in writing a real essay (as opposed to just a reaction kind of piece).
We're thinking of getting a new laptop for me...maybe a Mac this time. I have heard awful things about Vista but don't know if we can wait until next year when Windows 7 arrives. I was vehemently opposed to getting a laptop for myself originally, but because of the circumstances (I was alone in a hotel room for a week waiting to find out if I had breast cancer or not) the husband insisted, and now (3 years later) I can't figure out how I lived without one. But I'm not keen on spending a ton of money on either something that's going to drive me nuts (Vista) or something that's not worth the money it's going to cost (Mac).
I am currently reading the Fablehaven books and think they're quite good. And there are about 4 movies I'm quite keen to see--seems like they come in spurts. Let's hear it for culture!
But mostly, let's hear it for a NEW Grey's Anatomy tonight. Life is pretty damn good!
