Suggestion for Michael Moore's next movie

A killer chemical that must be stopped

Many of you may not be aware of a colorless chemical that threatens everyone in America and the world. Despite its dangers, Dihydrogen Monoxide(DHMO) continues to be commonly used by industry and the government.

A helpful website, DHMO.org, provides further information.

Here are some of the dangers according to DHMO.org:

Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
Contributes to soil erosion.
Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.
Exposure decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes.
Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.
Often associated with killer cyclones in the U.S. Midwest and elsewhere.
Thermal variations in DHMO are a suspected contributor to the El Nino weather effect.

Also according to DHMO.org, some common uses of DHMO include:

as an industrial solvent and coolant,
in nuclear power plants,
by the U.S. Navy in the propulsion systems of some older vessels,
by elite athletes to improve performance,
in the production of Styrofoam,
in biological and chemical weapons manufacture,
as a spray-on fire suppressant and retardant,
in abortion clinics,
as a major ingredient in many home-brewed bombs,
as a byproduct of hydrocarbon combustion in furnaces and air conditioning compressor operation,
in cult rituals,
by the Church of Scientology on their members and their members' families (although surprisingly, many members recently have contacted DHMO.org to vehemently deny such use),
by both the KKK and the NAACP during rallies and marches,
by pedophiles and pornographers (for uses we'd rather not say here),
by the clientele at a number of homosexual bath houses in New York City and San Francisco,
historically, in Hitler's death camps in Nazi Germany, and in prisons in Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Libya, Iraq and Iran,
in World War II prison camps in Japan, and in prisons in China, for various forms of torture,
by the Serbian military as authorized by Slobodan Milosevic in their ethnic cleansing campaign,
by many terrorist organizations,
in animal research laboratories, and
in pesticide production and distribution.

However, despite the work of concerned activists and groups like DHMO.org, there is little national attention to this problem. Hopefully, someone with the international acclaim of Michael Moore can bring more attention to this issue.

ROFL...this was a hilarious post. I wonder how many people will react without knowing what DHMO is (I ain't spoiling the surprise, hoping noone else has).

Heh. I read that webpage a long time ago and it still cracks me up. I can't remember what city, I think it was in Florida, but some clerk at the city council read the horros of Dihydrogen Monoxide and so a city representative drafted an ordinance banning it's use (or something to that effect). Someone pointed out what an idiot he was and the ordinance died. Of course he blamed it all on the clerk or intern or whatever she was.

What happened was, he wanted to pass a resolution banning styrofoam cups in city office buildings because DHMO was used in their production. Unless it's a different story, but the outcome was the same.

This is very funny ... it took me a minute of cruising around the site to figure out the joke ... gasp ... sputter ...

even though I was awash in the signs,
it took the flood of information before I finally realized the truth,
of what DMHO can do ...

PS, Of course, they didn't even mention how the Chinese used to use this in their torture sessions - I was stunned at the biased omission ...

Yes, and the US government has DELIBERATELY AND WILLINGLY supplied DHMO to the troops!

That was it! I remember now. I guess I could have done a google to jog my memory, but why go to that effort when there's plenty of people here to offer research.

Bah, next week they'll be selling DHMO as a wonder drug to grow hair, promote long lasting erections of grander scale, and restore a youthful glow to your skin. Today's chemical horrors are tomorrow's wonder-drug spam.

If anyone wants in on the ground floor let me know, I and a few Nigerians could use some capital to start a factory there. We'll make millions...

Most people just don't know what to make of it when something familiar is referred to in an unfamiliar way. It's like when Steve Allen would go out on the street and ask people "Do you masticate? Have you ever masticated?"

It's also a good example of how benign information can be negatively slanted.

I'm thinking of ordering a T-shirt to see how many of my friends catch on - actually, the prices seem quite reasonable - if I was running the site, I'd be charging at least double for the "information kits". The links to Greenpeace et.al. are a nice touch ...
