I'd like to know why perfectly capable and articulate writers find it acceptable to post an unadorned video clip for discussion without adding a single line of original content to the issue or topic presented in that video. - Little Whip
They don't. People with little time on their hands wanting to share a video clip in a virtual community that is syndicated, however, do find it extremely beneficial ( to the WWW - the only alternative to Lamestream media ) . Embedded, or not, a link is a link is a link. An echo chamber is an echo chamber is... You get the picture.
Being one that is on the outskirt of the JU community and still wading back in, it is easy to see why I may be concerned in spending precious spare time in providing analysis, research, and polish for a full-bodied article on some video I just ran in to whilst surfing the web. I sincerely want to know if anyone can verify the legitimacy of the video. If not, I'd like to know, at the least, what readers' impressions are of it.
You used to be a good writer, Def, putting some effort into your threads, but five of your last 7 posts (all you've contributed here since February) are very similar to this one, just a clip followed by a request for 'opinions.' Whatever happened to sharing your own as the catalyst for conversation? - Little Whip
it's called getting out of school and finding out that to 'get ahead' in the land of opportunity ( supposedly ) one must devote 60 hours a week to a 'career' .
I know this is your personal blog-space to do with as you please, so don't get all prickly about my observation. I just end up on your threads hoping to see something 'Original Deference' and feel cheated when all that's here is a cheap-assed link to a video. Sheesh, can't you even be bothered to properly embed the thing and add a bit of meaningful commentary? - Little Whip
No, it's not mine. It's Stardock's. It's always bothered me when people say 'their blog space' when all the little bits and bytes of 'their' words are stored on someone else's hard drive ( or servers ) free of contract and expense.
I won't get all prickly (- ed. note: uh, no? ), you're very right in what you've hinted at - there are higher standards to be met, and some bloggers that have been blogging for a few years here need to meet them ( and many of them HAVE and EXCEEDED expectations - you can name some of them ).
If I can find the time, I promise I will attempt to release actual articles in the stead of such self-indulgent bare links.
Your comments here are very much appreciated.
