A day in Seattle

panic attacks, guilt and relaxation

Yesterday was an interesting day, both horrible and fabulous. It started with an early phone call from hubby that he's sick--okay but on heavy duty meds. Of course, him being who he is, and me being who I am, it was a much more drawn out and melodramatic experience being awakened from a dead sleep to answer the phone with no memory of hearing it ring. He is definately okay, but uncomfortable and will be out of it for a bit. Panic attack.

Several hours later when I got up again and was actually functioning, I was struggling with whether or not to continue with plans to go to Seattle for the day with a friend or cancel. I ultimately decided to go, but confessed to my friend when we met up that I felt guilty for being out while my husband was in the condition he's in. I was reminded that there wasn't anything I could do about it but pray, which I was already doing, and sitting at home wasn't going to accomplish anything but make me sick with worry.

So, after driving to Bremerton to meet up with my college friend, we hopped on the ferry over to Seattle and enjoyed a day downtown, primarily at Pike Place Market

, where I was happy to discover they were having a street festival. We visitied lots of shops, including a really cool little musique shoppe where they let me try out a wooden flute from the 1940's that had a fabulous tone. Needs to be repadded, but it was wonderful to play.

There was a cool shop with lots of cat stuff. I may have to go back to get one of the tshirts they had for Nbs. The line on one of the signs was great, "If you don't talk to your cat about catnip, who will?" Speaking of cats, Yippie thoroughly approved of the flowers I bought myself at the market...

So many shops I visited yesterday, not that I bought alot..... There was this really cool anklet with multi-colored beads and bells at a little Indian or Pakistani place, and some things to send to Nbs. Pasta from Pappardelles, some lime cilantro linguine and trumpet blend herb pasta.....umm.....can't wait to cook that. Listened to music all up and down the street by the market, and did alot of walking, close to 5 miles total! One of my favorite sites, though, had to be the pigs. They were all over the city. Pigs of all kinds, all outfits and designs. I took pics of lots of them, but I won't post them all. I collect pigs, but they wouldn't let me take any home.....sigh.....just the pictures.

When we finally started getting tired, we headed back to the ferry, only to discover we had just missed it and the next one wouldn't be for another 90 minutes! So we enjoyed the balmy breeze, clear evening and gorgeous sunset, snapping pictures as the the lights were turned on in the buildings near the waterfront. Some of them turned out pretty decent. Too bad I couldn't figure out how to do this as a slideshow with Flickr.

It ended up being such a relaxing day, evening and night. Then I got home, very late, and my neighbor came out to meet me at the door. Full of questions at the wee hours of the morning about where I'd been, and very curious about who the flowers were from. I don't think she believed I bought them for myself. Oh well. I had fun anyways.

I am sorry NBS is sick. It is hard knowing things suck for the one you love and not being able to do a thing about it. I hope he is feeling better soon.

It looks like fun. They did the pig thing in DC a few years ago with donkeys and elephants and I'm still kicking myself for not taking pictures. Think of what an awesome scrapbook page that would have made.

Thank you both, ladies. I had so much fun. The piggies were a total surprise to me, but I loooooooove them......I've been collecting them for years, so I had to take lots of pictures. In fact, I may have to go back for more.

And he is doing better. I talked to him this morning. I still wish I could have been there to make it all better for him, but alas......
