A civil war is a war in which parties within the same culture, society or nationality fight against each other for the control of political power. It doesn't require a "force able change of government type" (whatever that means). Very often the government before the civil war is restored after the civil war with no real change at all.
A revolution is a revolt that worked. A revolt is an attempt to replace the government by force. A revolt can be a civil war and most civil wars are revolts.
The Soviet revolution was part of a civil war. Note that it would still have been a civil war, but not a revolution, if the reds had lost to the whites.
The American civil war was a civil war and a revolt, but not a revolution.
