I heard the news today, oh boy... (you'll catch this musical reference again in just a bit...)
Dale Earnhardt, Jr., is leaving team DEI (Dale Earnhardt Enterprises) in '08. Apparently mother Teresa couldn't come to terms with offering Jr. the ownership stake that he was looking for.
Too bad for her. She definitely seems to have earned the nickname I saw someone else mention for her (on another site I frequent): She is "The Yoko Ono of racing." (get that musical reference from above yet?)
DEI is now pretty much destined to DIE. Probably a slow death. Their chances of remaining a viable racing team over the next few years is about the same as my chances of winning the South Dakota Lottery (which, if you don't know, is never gonna happen given that I don't go to South Dakota, and don't play the Lottery anyway). Unless they made a huge move, and I mean incredibly huge move, such as getting the likes of Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart to move to their team they're quickly headed towards non-existence.
Again, as someone else said elsewhere, Dale Earnhardt's widow is already seen as the biggest bitch in NASCAR. She's most certainly looking like the stupidest one at this point. Her companies main meal ticket just announced he is a free agent after this season. Doesn't seem to leave a lot of value behind.
I guess (also as someone else suggested elsewhere) that Jr. will be able to buy back his daddies old company on the cheap in the future, because there's darned sure not going to be much chance of it's value remaining too high now.
