Kevin Barret is the only crank who's devoted more hours of his life then anybody else I know to proporting the idea that the government was behind it. As supporting facts, he states that the majority of the Muslim world believes that we did this to ourselves. Made up Al-Kills-R-Us-Da, filmed the scenes on a hollywood set of them setting around congratulating each other on the destruction of the towers.
I find that disturbing, of course I'm not alone, what I find equally distrubing is guys like Bill O'Reilly trying to get him fired from his job, via influencing Gov. Doyle, to influence the UW system. Barret is a PT instructor in Islamic studies, and as part of the discussion of Islam in the world they spend a week talking about 9/11. Gee wonder why? He allows students to challenge him on his what we call, "conspiracy idea" and he calls truth, and also to challenge their own conception of what happened.
So what if he believes in a conspiracy, invents facts, by the time you get to college, i.e. are an adult, you need to be able to sift through the world's B.S. and accept and reject facts, ideas, and spin on a case by case basis. You also need to be able to stay open minded and be able to reconsider posistions. Only by reconsidering facts and posistions can you come back and strengthen already strong posistions or re-examine weak ones.
In science usually the simplest answer is the correct one, which is simpler, massive government conspiracy, or terrorist attack against a complacent and unacceptably unaware advesary?
I think that answer speaks for itself.
