Another popular misconception is that Hinduism promotes idol worship.

Hinduism is differentiated into various other sects.Most of them are idol worshippers with a few exceptions who believe in worshipping God in nature,as they believe god is present everywhere even the air we breathe in.
Various festivals take place where the idols are immersed in water after the conclusions of the pooja's.

THere are millions of vedic gods,and in every hindu household you'll find different followers for every god.

My greatest problem with Hinduism are the Dalits. Can a Hindu tell me about them? I'd really like to know why and how they fit in with the Hindu cosmology and theology. Thanks!

Ah yes what a brilliant man, a saint in my book.

I only know of him through the movie Ghandi with the british actor (I am bad with names) I have watched the movie 3 times and could easily see it again. He held a lot of sway with the people. He lived what he "preached" he was amazing.

Yet when I went to India I REALLY had a hard time finding a statue of him, I eventually found one. I was surprised by that. I went to Pagwara, Agra, Dheli and Mumbai, if I remeber correctly the statue was in Dehli my memory is really bad, sorry.

Ghandi - awesome.

I had a wonderful visit to India. It was a combination of a business visit and honeymoon.

We stayed with a family in Phagwara for one week and experienced life in India with the family. They were a very wealhy family and they treated us as though we were visiting royalty, their hospitality was hugely welcoming, warm, open and most enjoyable. We conducted our business dealings.

The true Indian home cooked food was absolutely delicious.

After our visit with the family in Phagwara we went to Dheli and stayed in a 5 star hotel, which we used as our base for a week. We went into old Dheli and walked through all those NARROW little alleyways between the buildings, I found that terrifying, I had visions of being yanked into a doorway and disappearing forever. It was also scary from the point of view - if a fire broke out, we would never find our way out, it was like amaze.

The pajages - I loved riding in them. The cows in the streets, the traffic, gee whizz all over the place, the central lines on the roads meant nothing!

We went by train to Agra obviously saw the Taj, but my favourite and the high lite of the visit for me was the Red Fort, that was spectacular I cannot remeber the exact number of palaces within the fort something like 60? Each building was more beautiful than the next.

The history of the fort was interesting, and seeing the palace where the man that built the Taj for his wife was held prisoner for so many years by his son (think it was his son) his eye sight was very bad and they had a small "mirror" placed in just such a spot that he could look close up to see the taj the little "mirror" was rounded or something to make the reflections bigger something to that effect, I did not try the mirror, I took the guides word for it.

The fort was surrounded by a deep huge wild gap between the buildings and the outside wall, where wild animals were kept, tigers elephants etc.

It really was spectacular.

We then flew to Bombay now mumbai and again stayed with a family there and once again were treated like visiting royalty. We concluded our business and spent a couple of nights there. We went to a lovely beach just outside Mumbai, their were all these food stall there, camels - I rode one, and horses, I ofund myself a spectacular horse and galloped though the surf it was wonderful.

I came home very "Indian" I wore Punjabi Pajamas and saris for months after my visit since I am a "european", I raised a lot of eyebrows! I was and still am considered to be very eccentric!

I found the experience of India most enjoyable and probably more so as we stayed with Indian families and so had a taste of the "True" India and not just the tourist experience.
