Immigration: Caught in the middle...

Why is it that the immigration (or at least those shown on my local T.V. station) do not seem to realize…”COME INTO THE US LEGALLY!”. I mean, JFC, how hard is that to learn? Seriously.

Do you think they realize that? Nope. They turn it around into another “poor me” whine. It is just like the black civil rights cause. For a long time, it was a great, decent, honest, respected movement….well, *coughs* not anymore. Most of it seems nothing more than a… ‘pan handlers union’.

Why? *shrugs* That’s all I want to know. Why do these protesters and “freedom loving ‘Americans’…” (cough-cough) insist we let the illegal immigrants in. Is it, perhaps, misinformation? That’s my guess, is that a lot of it is that they are being guided by total cons. They’re (cons) twisting things around…

I have nothing wrong with immigrants, who become citizens. HELL, my ancestors are immigrants. (Well, miniscule percent ’is’ Indian, but even then…not truly ‘native‘.) Just follow the flipping rules, pay taxes, and live the “American dream”. Is that so hard? No.

Things like these protests disgust me. If what they, the DNC, etc… (the “liberals”) do, is what a “liberal” is -- It’s moving me further away. Plain and simple. (Maybe I am more of a conservative than I thought...

)

Lucas, do you understand how hard it is to get a green card? Have you any idea of the expense involved?

It's not just a question of people not wanting to get a green card, it's a question of not being able to. There are fees upon fees upon fees; there are background checks and interviews to be conducted, and unless you have a pretty damn spectacular job waiting for you you are required to have a financial sponsor. So, it's not just as simple as filling in a form before you stroll across the border, it's MUCH more expensive and intricate a process than that.

The problem is, is that the situation is complicated.

We do not have the manpower to expell them, we also could not prevent them from returning. Even if we expell them, the economy would take a hit.

We would not have enough room to imprison them, and probation is not an answer.

Add to that the fact that thier children, born in this country (I belive) are American Citizens. And what politician is going to throw themselves on that grenade.

Do they pay taxes? What about a "fee"? Sort of like a club? you pay "dues" and are considered an "applicant" until certain criteria are met.

And I never said that it WAS an excuse. Lucas seems to think that it's just a matter of filling in a few forms, and it's WAAAAAAAAY more complicated than that. My green card process took 4 months to complete and cost us hundrends of dollars, and that was back in 1994 before 9/11 happened. I shudder to think about how much harder and costlier it is now.

IG makes some very good points. Once they're here, it's difficult to make them leave - and if they've had children born here, those kids are US citizens. It's a mess, and there isn't an adequate solution in sight, IMO.

I understand. I also understand that with 9/11, its much tougher.

Then wait. Don't do something illegal. Earn enough money, or, get a workers visa. (I'm fine with that.) However, when the visa is up...go home.

*rolls eyes* You got me on that point. However, They do not have to pay taxes to the state/fed. Therefore, if theyn ever need to use, lets say, HUD housing...they are, in a sense...mooching. (Yes, you might point out that children don't , etc....)

Granted...It comes down to responsibility...and, ethics/morals. Are they going to do what is right, or wrong?
