The only one I ever had a problem with was the Ask toolbar. That one I took out with Revo before I found the ASC Uninstaller. It lasted not long at all. Ask was instant history.

Question for you:what do you know about IOBit as a company? I sued to use Advanced System Care until I began to hear whispers about unethical practices and it's connection to China (I am not trying to impugn all Chinese software, but I do feel country of origin is important...even software from the US can be suspect).

I found this article-http://shanegowland.com/opinions/2012/iobit-is-a-sucky-company/ from a quick Google search. I respect your opinion. How do you feel about IOBit as a company and Chinese software as a whole (sorry for the potential thread derail)?

to be honest i think a site name like "virus-delete.com", sounds rather like malware-honeypot aimed at the computer-illiterate.  

Hmm so after spending some time on this (i'll be honest, not a top priority for me), I updated potential holes in my security, did a scan with Mbam, cleaned with ccleaner, and it did nothing to the easy life bit.

then I went into about:config in firefox and was able to finally reset the right string to kill the easy life bug.

And another one bites the dust!

I'm posative it is dead, no issues in 48 hours.

If you want to use the popup/toolbar Adwcleaner, I'd suggest downloading it from a site with an established reputation which obtains the software directly from the developer such as http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/adwcleaner.html 

Even then, do the "Advanced" or "Custom" installation to avoid "wrapped" software.

Adwcleaner was developed by a French team Xplode.

I might trust this site a bit more if it didn't have such a tacky name, and if its owner "neil jonshon" could spell his name correctly. It would also help if he lived somewhere his name was a bit more common. The language on the site was also a tad "overblown" ('assail', instead of 'attack') and lacking the word "the".

More interesting is the fact that if you browse to "http://www.deletevirusspyware.com/", you get this software and a spiel about a Trojan and yet more awkward English "It is a dangerous browser hijacker that is capable to affect Google Chrome". I suspect there are just loads of sub-domains with other pup/virus and Trojans' names. Good for selling advertising.

What you probably get (no thank you, I didn't download anything from there, lol) is the software with a few other things like toolbars/browser high jackers and pups which you wanted the software to rid your computer of in the first place.

Since the thread was revived by a ******, I thought it opportune to remind everyone that toolbars, browsers and browser hijackers can come with your favourite software titles... depending on where you download them.

I have downloaded Any Video Converter a number of times without issue, but just yesterday I noticed it came bundled with toolbars, Google Chrome and/or options to change my current home page to ask.com.  In fact, I was very lucky to have noticed it because the text was considerably smaller than all the rest and could easily have been missed/overlooked as license fineprint.

So people, please be extra vigilant as this practice is becoming more and more commonplace across freeware sites, not to mention well disguised or obscure when installing the desired program.
