SAN FRANCISCO — In a tongue-in-cheek call for immigration reform, farm workers are teaming up with comedian Stephen Colbert to challenge unemployed Americans: Come on, take our jobs.
Farm workers are tired of being blamed by politicians and anti-immigrant activists for taking work that should go to Americans and dragging down the economy, said Arturo Rodriguez, the president of the United Farm Workers of America.
So the group is encouraging the unemployed — and any Washington pundits or anti-immigrant activists who want to join them — to apply for the some of thousands of agricultural jobs being posted with state agencies as harvest season begins.

Proponents of tougher immigration laws have argued that farmers have become used to cheap labor. The problem with the UFW's proposition, they argue, is that growers don't want to raise wages and improve working conditions enough to attract Americans.
Free Republic is kind of the DU of the right. Thus, it's it's really just an echochamber of stupid. The comments get pretty amusing. Although, if you read down a bit you start noticing that there's a divide on the perception between the backwoods types who see illegals as farm workers and urban types who've noticed that the majority of landscapers/remodelers/roofers have become increasingly suspect over the years. I think there's some insight to be gained from that divergence, if only to suggest that the immigration 'problem' has a bit more teeth to it no so far below the surface, which is something that your average conservative type would be hard pressed to admit.
Still though, you know Hannity is going to find some bored teabagger or minuteman who's going to go and work the fields and tell us all how he likes it and Americans who like....went to school and shit...should get out there and pick fruit.
