Quoting Ephafn, reply 10When reselling a game, how do you make sure that I can't play my sold game anymore? As GOO doesn't seem to require Internet access past the initial activation, I could have installed the game on my laptop, while only deactivating my main desktop copy.
Just curious... (I never sold my old games, and I don't plan on doing so anyway.)
It was explained in another thread that you have to log on and essentially the original publisher buys back your license, and then someone else can buy it as "used" from them. So it's not a direct person-to-person used sale, it's like Gamestop or something buying back a used console game from you, and then re-selling it to someone else.
That wasn't my question ...
I am wondering how the publisher/Stardock/whoever knows that I haven't kept a copy around. In the case of games without future update, what prevent me from buying the game, installing it on a few computers that I own, then selling the game back one week later?
