Just wanted to voice my support of the game and the forums.
Being based in the UK I only picked up GC2:EU in December last year and I’m loving it – totally addicted. Thanks to my ravenous appetite for advice and information I have read quite a lot of stuff on the forums, which are full of useful tips.
I abandoned my first game – I couldn’t understand why I was bankrupt, read the forums and crushed the AI in my next game (admittedly it was at beginner difficulty). Since then I’ve worked my way up the difficulty levels and am experimenting with the different races. I haven’t lost a game since and am now on my third ‘tough’ game – I feel I’ve broken the difficulty curve and this wouldn’t have been possible without the forum.
Off topic – but I’m really enjoying my latest game.
I’m playing as the Torians on a huge map, tough difficulty; I am at the latter stages of the colony rush.
I think my population is more than the 7 AIs combined.
I found a PQ26 which got a +29% research bonus after a morality event.
Found a PQ14 with a plus 29% production bonus
My favourite planet is only PQ6 – but it has 4 manufacturing bonuses – 1x700, 2x300 and 1x100 – so 4 factories are the equivalent of 14!
Before I built up my military I was getting threats from the hostile Korath and the Yor – now I have a military they both are sending me money. They are not the only ones – the Drath send me cash periodically too.
My jump in military power and establishing two trade routes saw my relations with the Korath go from hostile to friendly – indeed everyone in the galaxy has neutral or above relations with me.
My position is liberally dotted with galactic resources – two research, one influence and one military.
It’s my best start yet – I’ve out colonised the AIs and am just turning my economy from deficit to surplus production. Most of the AIs have tanked their economy and are barely producing a thing.
Time to try a higher difficulty methinks?
