The great smart phone can’t seem to avoid it’s one fatal downfall (so to speak): The toilet.

How many have lost a phone to the throne? OK, put down your hands. That might just become a thing of the past. Wouldn’t that be great?

Well, three companies showed off their stuff at CES 2012… HzO, P2i and Liquirepel all are coming to the rescue. Apparently, 82.5 million phones have been damaged by moisture. I’ve seen posts here in forums so this caught my eye.

Currently dry, uncooked rice or dried silica gel packets are being used (along with gentle hair drier use) to fix things.

Perhaps the new spray on or specially (preventively) applied material/nanofilms might be the solutions of the future. The HzO company has added a plus: Impermeability to Gas, oil, and even nerve gas. Always a plus, depending on the neighborhood in which one lives.

There’s already such a product on the market: Fujitsu’s “Arrows” tablet. Motorola was first to embrace the technology with “Splash Guard” coating, which might be a short term protection only. HzO’s appears to last much longer (according to them).

Anyway folks, the day of the commode killed cell (so you can flush telling your mom that’s why you didn’t call) is probably coming to an end.

It'd be a lot easier if anyone who drowns their phone was summarily executed...for being stupid.

It'd improve the gene pool too.

You know, the funny thing is, when this sort of thing becomes standard on the market, I don't think the amount of water-damaged phones will go down. And here's my reasoning: people see something like this and think they can drop it into a glass of water without causing damage. The phone will still be vulnerable, just less so. And people will be less careful, because they think they're protected.

I think a better question is "why would anyone want to stick something upside their face that has been in the toilet?"

Besides, if you're spending that long in the loo that you need to use the phone to entertain yourself, you probably need to eat more fiber

kryo - there are bluetooth receivers and ear buds too. A phone can be swabbed with a pad dampened with alcohol, also. As for time? Not the determinant. Might end up in the bowl when just knocked off a counter.

As for fiber? Folks should have as much as they can take in their diets. Short of gnawing on coconuts.

I don't have a cell phone. I don't want a cell phone. I got enough with my laptop. Having one of those doohickies will just make things worse.

Back-ups are important. After you fish your phone out of the crapper you're going to need to wipe it.

True... toilet is the place for read the newspaper without being disturbed...

Well, i have drop my old nokia mobile phone in a pond during work, some years ago... a few mintutes on a radiator for dry, power on and everything was OK... seem that these old phone was not smart enough for know that he need to die after such treatment...

On the other hand, my actual smart phone is really smart... refuse to work when it is too much cold ( below zero ) or to hot ( forget it in the car )... shutdown when the humidity level is too much high... well, i am working outside whatever the weather and so the phone is more in shutdown mode that in working mode... pity that good old strong hardware have become a expensive option...
