Quoting Neil Banfield,

I am a little confused about your need to restart the software as you mention at the top that the WindowFX process never crashes so I am unsure why you would need to restart them.  Under no circumstances should you terminate the WindowFX processes such as wfx32, wfx64 or WindowFXSrv as doing so may have unpredicable results.  The 32 bit process runs on 64 bit OSes as well due to how Windows implements things and on a 64 bit OS you need a 32 and 64 bit process for the kind of thing WindowFX does.

For technical reasons we do not allow animations for opening menus and this is likely to remain the case going forward.

Window Flicks are actions that can be performed when you hold down the mouse button on a titlebar of a window, rapidly move the mouse in a specific direction and then release the mouse button all within a short period of time.

- For now, my Desktop doesn't bug anymore, so let's see if anyone will have the same issue ^^
Are you sure the desktop window doesn't think a key is stuck down?
I'm not aware of that kind of "basic?" issue. How could I have do that? That never happen on my past, so since win95, and twice since your beta ^^
Probably a software conflict, I'll check that if it happen again.
Nope, the amount of memory usage was in average.
- I'd kill him (because I was thinking he may be the cause of my Desktop behavior!) to restart him, but like you said, bad idea, and obviously doesn't work.

- Thank you
for having enlightened me about the both process x86-x64

- For "Window Flicks", when you said "mouse button", did you mean "regular left click"? I've try all click in all direction on different speed, still don't work at all. Anybody else like me?

Another observation with MS Office 2010.

When I save a file without closing it the active window often, but not always, loses focus (darkens & goes transparent - I have both enabled) and stays that way until I click in the window again.  Also happens occasionally after printing by clicking on the default printer icon.

Also, when a Word document is closed while other Word documents are open, often left with no window having focus.

Win7Pro x64, WFX 5.0, Intel HD 3000 graphics 8.15.10.2345, WB 7.3.

Quoting Neil Banfield,

Quoting Spyrofunk, reply 64Ah yeah I forgot.

This happens in WFX4 and WFX5 as well, when disabling WFX within it's own window explorer ALWAYS crash.

Does that vary depending on what features are on?

Is there a way to send u a config file? so you can try there? I think that's something that should be tested by the team, I'm lazy to have crashes until I find the cause.

Quoting Neil Banfield,
This is being looked at, but in the short term you can exclude Photoshop from animations. Doing so would avoid this problem. You can do this via the exclude applications from animations button under Misc animations.

Awesome, That isn't easy to find, glad you told me.  Thanks Neil.

You shouldn't have to hunt for or stumble across it, so that's one non-intuitive UI feature that could definitely be improved.

Version number of WFX:  5
Detailed description of issue

If I connect to PC using remote desktop (Ovel 1Gb LAN, so all features on (DWM...)), lot of applications looks freezed and if I manage to disable WFX I got message DWM stop working & closing.

After WFX disable everything start working fine.

If WFX automaticaly disable like in WFX4 whould be great.

Is WFX5 installed on the host or the client or both?

Quoting Daiwa,
This is not a bug, but an observation. The 'menus' in Office 2010 are windows and behave/animate as such, which is a little disconcerting. I think I'll get used it, though.

Which menus are these?

We have been unable to reproduce any menus in Office animating as windows.

Is WFX5 installed on the host or the client or both?

Host (remote computer),

Windows 7 Ultimate Host with WFX5

Windows 7 Pro clean setup (RDP client), connecting via RDP to WFX5 enabled server over 1Gb network with all features on.

Quoting Neil Banfield,

I'm sorry to have misled you, Neil.  Office2010 technically doesn't have 'menus'.  I should have said 'dialogs' - FileOpen, FileClose, FileSaveAs, OpenRecentFile; they all behave as windows (I assume they should) & use the Open & Close animations.  I use a 1600x900 display with right-side Taskbar and have those dialogs set as large as I can.  The Open & Close animations are choppy enough on my rig, particularly with large windows, to be a distraction so I've abandoned using them.  The Minimize & Restore animations, on the other hand, are smooth and I still use them.  The difference in quality between Open/Close animations & Minimize/Restore animations is significant on my rig for some reason.  It's Intel graphics, of course.

I've seen an issue with WindowFX's own UI, BTW - the window opens with a lot of white blocks which fill in one at a time over a period of half a second or so - which I thought at first was due to the WFX animation, but it happens with the Windows default animation, too.

Daiwa: Which animations are you running for Window Open/Close and Min / Max?

I test-drove all the version 5 ones, but was mainly using Expand from Desktop or Rotate (Horz/Vert) for Open and Reverse Suction to Right for Close.

I'm using random min/restore animations currently.

I don't think the Intel graphics drivers are quite up to the job, although the GE score is 5.5 per WB About.

Thanks, Neil.

I hope that WindowFX 5 add "shadow effect" like Mac OS.
The shadow effect of Mac OS is better than Windows Vista / 7 !

Expand from Desktop is a v4 style animation which works differently to the v5 ones so may have different performance.

Very frequently, but not 100% of the time, when I save a document in Word 2010 the window will dim/trans & stay that way until clicked.  Happens with Excel, too.  The window will transiently dim each time I print as well, but I think that would be intended behavior.  Win7Pro 64b notebook, Intel HD 3000 graphics.

Try turning off close animations and see if that impacts it.

If not, try disabling open animations and turn close ones back on.  Any change?

Turning off the close animation (Distort3) had no effect ("turning off" = selecting Windows default).

Turning off the open animation (Distort3) and turning the close animation (Distort3) back on: fixed - no dimming/trans on save.

Interesting - now (open animation off, close animation on), just pressing the Caps Lock key transiently dims/transes the active window.

What happens if you set the open animation to one of the v4 animations?  They are shown at the bottom of the list.

To be fair, I may be taxing my rig a bit - at the time I had Palemoon with 7 open tabs, 3 Citrix VPN sessions, 5 Word documents, Outlook and a medical imaging app all running simultaneously, with explorer.exe using 7-20% of CPU.  Just my normal day load.

I'll give the V4 animations a spin.

I am still on WinXP. Is WinFX 5 going to have window shadows like older version did? I always used the Mac style window shadows in older WinFX versions.
