What with Huffington Post and cable news we are under attack by the media.

The media has been pulling these strings for decades. They show no indisgression and no thought for how it will effect things. If things aren't sensational enough to sell papers they make them sensational enough. We had four people die today in Iraq! Oh, no! The world's going to end! Sounds a lot better than we had four people die today in Iraq and over five times that died in auto wrecks. Same thing with the economy. The economy goes up and down, that's the nature of it, but when you have the news on ten different channels saying how "horrible" it is that it's taken a drop that causes the not as educated investors to pull out which in turn causes more downturn. Rinse and repeat till you make a crisis. Honestly, if it wasn't for the bail outs that were given our economy would be back on it's feet already. As it is the educated investors are just sitting around waiting rather than picking the market back up because they don't know who's going to get the next bail out and who will just take a dive.

As a disabled vet I can understand how they came to that conclusion. These people are anti-military in their mindset. We are all blood thirsty indiscriminate killers with no sense of morality or care for human life. Using this mindset it is easy to make the leap of illogic to the point that these veterans would betray their country and kill fellow citizens they were charged with protecting. Remember in their mind they want to destroy the military and veterans would see that and want to fight against it.

That is the reason they love it when they can get a former military member to join their ranks (like Powell for instance). It helps give them a sense of credibility with moderates and independents. I'll never forget or forgive, the political posturing that went on in congress in 2007. Polos and Reid (and a few others) threating to wit hold funding for the troops on the battlefield, so they could get some damn time-table. Thank god Republicans and some sensible Democrats didn't let it happen. So now what's to stop them when something similar happens? They are running two rings of the three ring circus.

I agree whole heartedly. Still not called for unless they decide to revoke all our freedom's tomorrow, but then I'd hope there's no one in power at the moment that is that stupid.

The only thing veterans threaten, is a coup. Coups don't work well if a lot of civvies are armed and trained and have demonstrated the will to fight for their country.

Having your banking system collapse is one of the most serious things that can happy for an economy - if this isn't a serious problem, what would you consider serious?

By the way you missed out terroism - the fear of terrorism, while not a serious problem (relative to other causes of death) has been used by numerous governments to push through draconian measures stifling individuals liberty. Afterall anyone who opposes such measures gets branded as wanting to assist terrorists, making it much easier to push them through.

Do I sound like an Obama supporter? If so, I think I really need to step up my game a little bit. Though he is the President, and we'll have to deal with him for the next four years, no I'm not a supporter. Why not? Because he doesn't make sense! You don't dump money on a failing economy where inflation is hitting the roof, that's economic stupidity. You don't bail out all sorts of companies that get hit when a financial crisis hits, you let the economy recover itself. A really big one, you can't expect the economy to always go up, there have to be down periods or you will end up in a depression.

What would I consider serious? How about the fact that dumping money on the economy has a MUCH larger chance to throw us into depression than having every bank in the country go out of business. The FDIC has safeguards against banks going out of business, however that doesn't mean jack shit if the dollar isn't worth anything.

Yep, like classifying veterans as terrorist threats, which is in another thread around here somewhere... Reminds me of the media frenzy when we were actually fighting the war on terror, too. "2 people died today in Iraq", saw that headline several times or something like it, would love for them to broadcast how many people died in automobile wrecks that day.

it goes quite a bit beyond simple hope. I criticied obama on JU and had somone respond with, among others, "obama shall lead us from the darkness into the light". This is a religion that worships him.
