Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Lack of respect has become libel

Read the JU Terms of Service

So it seems that a JU poster has committed libel against another poster.  I have linked the article for your reference.

Erathoniel wrote:

I know some of you hate me (Ock, talkin' to you here)

According to the legal definitions found on nolo.com, libel is defined as the following:

libel

An untruthful statement about a person, published in writing or through broadcast media, that injures the person's reputation or standing in the community. Because libel is a tort (a civil wrong), the injured person can bring a lawsuit against the person who made the false statement. Libel is a form of defamation , as is slander (an untruthful statement that is spoken, but not published in writing or broadcast through the media).

The JU Terms of Service, 3. Member Conduct, states:

(j) make malicious personal attacks, statements of libel, or other behavior deemed unacceptable by administrators.

Ock has never stated that he "hates" this poster.  To assign and associate a word of such intolerance is libel and a direct act of defamation.

I truly hope that other bloggers at JU and the admins take notice of this behavior.  Zoomba, I appreciate your response in regards to the TOS/TOU.  The issue of libel, however, was not addressed.

As a whole, we JU bloggers are usually able to police our own actions.  Unfortunately this blatant act of making a false statement has the potential to injure on a professional level, aside from being completely repugnant personally.  The military takes any accusations of intolerance, hate in this case, seriously.  To many the accusation spouted by this user can be merely brushed aside and ignored.  When it comes time for promotion in the Navy, any question regarding character is enough to pass over a good candidate.

The original statements are available via Google's cached versions of the pages.

In other words, deleting doesn't really delete, erathoniel.

...and captured in screen shots. I'm an information pack rat.

I had to rub my eyes for that. People actually have enough HD space to take a pic of everything they don't like?

I have more HD space than most because of my research.  Bioinformatics = information which necessitates plenty of HD space.  Ock and I are also musicians...real musicians.  You know, the kind who play actual instruments, multiple instruments, compose, arrange and perform music.  We have 1TB dedicated to music alone...this does not include additional music kept on the iPODs, laptops and Mac.

If something is important to me it will be saved.  If at some point it is no longer necessary to keep, it can be tossed with the mere push of the delete key.

Erathoniel, you know very little about the folks on JU.  You may believe that your actions allow you to dodge bullets when you are actually creating your own demise.

May 4, 2008 18:42:20

Ha. You do know I'm not leaving, right? Even if I'm ranting to myself.

May 4, 2008 18:42:49
ASaxyGirl is my wife, Era. I know her pretty well. I recommend you get a lawyer. Think I'm kidding? Well, that's the gamble. Make it a good one.

I'll take that gamble Ock.

I think you hate me, too.

Seriously, stop putting political fear into this forum. It is no longer casual if people have to censor their ideas. This isn't the military.
May 4, 2008 18:47:30

Heck, I'll take that gamble. Hit me with your best shot.

Blatant lies stated to damage another person is libel. Neither Ock or I are asking people to censor their ideas. We're likely two people who are most in favor of the free expression of ideas. I AM NOT IN FAVOR OF POSTING BLATANT, UNFOUNDED, DEFAMATORY COMMENTS.

I think you hate me, too.

That comment is not libel since you state you "think" not you "know." There's a legal difference.

You're right, JU is not the military or a military forum. It is a public forum and statements made about the character of a member can make it back through a military member's chain of command. Neither Ock or I have made a secret of our identities, who we work for and where we are stationed. If a blatant attack is made to either of our character, steps will be taken to protect ourselves. You don't have to agree and you don't have to like it. You also do not have to live our lives.

Still, if you believe it wrong, say it to my face.

Otherwise I have to look all over, it turns into a race.

Link to counter.

As for your grades... Any monkey can pull A's and B's. You appear to be incapable of learning.

I resent this.

Any monkey whose rich parents paid for their weekly violin lessons, who created a stable and nurturing home environment, and who knew a political representative who could recommend them for military school might be a monkey who could pull that off easily.

Good point. I know you hate me. Now I hope you have a good time having a lawyer inhale more money than this is worth, if you can convince Stardock to release my identity.
May 4, 2008 19:05:04

I agree with you

for I do feel that a few

may be holding a grudge

for the intellectual smudge

they gave themselves

when we learned, ourselves

I went to private school

I really wasn't cool

but I tried my best

and I stood above the rest

May 4, 2008 19:06:16

Still, if you believe it wrong, say it to my face.

I have done exactly that as have others on JU. You have been provided with specific suggestions which you agree to implement then immediately return to "business as usual."  Your insincerity is an insult to every person kind enough to who tried to help you in this community.

I will not be commenting in your article.

May 4, 2008 19:12:45

I have tried to resist

but still you insist

on being a pain

to the fact I remain.

Your claims of my dishonesty

are not very honest, you'll see.

I tried my hardest to be what you fear

your issues with me do not appear sincere

I try to speak the truth

but get silenced without ruth.

Where is Stardock? This is becoming a problem, and it undermines the premise of these forums. Someone with support needs to resolve this. I vote for kicking Ock and Asaxy. I like them more, but they were the ones who brought up litigation.

You obviously did not describe me.  I worked full time while I completed my undergraduate studies at a state university and I served on active duty for the majority of my masters.  Dad paid for my piano lessons but that was the only money paid toward any part of my education.  We were not poor but definitely not rich.  It's hard to get rich on an an enlisted Navy salary.

I made A's and B's but the difference is I learned and I continue to learn.  I sat in class with the monkey's who made A's and B's...the ones who memorized and regurgitated.  They made good grades but none of them would know an original thought if it walked up and tapped them on their shouder.

You can resent what I said.  That is your choice.

I know you hate me. Now I hope you have a good time having a lawyer inhale more money than this is worth, if you can convince Stardock to release my identity.

If you really want to badger me, again that is your choice.  If at some point legal action is required I will pursue it.  For now you just appear to be trying to cause problems for the sake of causing problems.  Sad.

May 4, 2008 19:18:02
I do not believe that anyone need
be stripped for their deed
I do however feel
that they have made a bad deal
by going behind my back
to make this attack.
May 4, 2008 19:21:51

Where is the respect

you want to inspect

I cannot defend

nor try to mend

if you make this attack

behind my back

May 4, 2008 19:37:23

CS, you can call for my and Ock's ouster from JU and if Zoomba determines that either of us have violated the TOU/TOS then I believe your request will be granted.  I never threatened to bring litigation against Stardock.  What I have done is keep copies of anything that could be used to defame or threaten us.

May 4, 2008 19:45:15

Against this claim of libel

I shall be a rebel

Apparently my word has no value

but yet you threaten to sue

May 4, 2008 19:47:21

The difference is I have not made the biggest mistake in online posting: revealing my personal information. As it stands you can either try to get it from Stardock, who have a detailed legal privacy policy. Or you can try to sue my univeristy for it. Good luck with that.

Interesting story. From the way you portray yourself, you grew up without a mother. Did you know that the head of Johns Hopkins came from a home in which he had an illiterate mother for family? But that mother put a lot of time and effort teaching him to pursue knowledge and to succeed. I am sure you had more money than him, since your dad could afford piano lessons. Did you know that the man in America who lives off government wellfare lives better than a neurosurgeon in Nigeria? Money is not the entire issue. There are other reasons certain minority groups and the majority group in America fare better than blacks and hispanics that extend beyond socioeconomic class. Although, I did think you went to Navy school undergrad.

I made all A's in school, and I continue to make grades nearly that high at the university level, competing with comparitively more brilliant minds.

And if the military really reviews everything you do, are you even free? What a sick institution. No wonder my dad told me not to join.

I want you out because you two are a ticking time bomb. You two should really change your id's and join again. Next time don't reveal who you are.

I guess I'm being referred to as a bastard.

...and I proudly serve my country so you can state whatever you like.

We have both been a part of JU since nearly its inception. No boom yet.

Would they just as proudly ruin you for reward, because of something silly that blipped insignificantly on the face of the internet, alongside a couple of failed porn site attempts and pro-nazism?
May 4, 2008 19:58:21

I support our soldiers

but I do find that murders

are not the key

so why aim at me

and threaten to sue

that whose words have no value

you are but a serpent

I give you an offer to repent

and I will harbor no ill will

but until then I will remain this way still.

May 4, 2008 19:58:48

This might be a stupid question, but cscoles, eratheil, same person?  I've only been observing recently, given the short times I've been on and off, but there are a few times I've noticed and wondered if they are the same person?

Plus, haven't we been down this road before, with this same persona?  Changes name, reappears, do the same things all over again, wash, rinse, repeat!
