Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

So, I'm supposed to spread this 'free' money around?

Exactly how 'free' is free anyway?

I've heard the talks, the stories, seen the programs, read the headlines, America is in trouble financially (or maybe it's better to say economically)!

Whatever the phrase you like to use, even the BBC have us covered and it's not a comfortable feeling!  I see what's going on around me in my local area. Lots of houses for sale, whether by choice or not.  Some sitting for months without a buyer.   People being laid off. Budgets being slashed, the prices are up in the super market.  My grocery bill is higher than it's ever been so I have to be even more frugal. I try to use coupons sometimes, but that works some of the times, because these manufacturers don't really give coupons on rice or meats or milk or the foods that are really important!  Why is that I wonder?!

Ever since hearing about the money that the government is going to give us, my first reaction was "I don't want it"!  I don't want it because somehow, someway I'm going to have to pay for it next year!  And why are they doing that though, exactly where are they getting this money from?  Were a couple of questions I kept throwing out there.  Unfortunately I was usually speaking to myself - what else is new?!lol

So I did the next best thing I went on line (God bless the Internet!) and started to read more details.  Some of the things I found out are:

The government, our government, does not have the money to cash all those checks they are handing out!  No....that means they will have to borrow the money!  BORROW the money?! Doesn't that put us into debt, more debt?!

Some people say that receiving this money will not affect your 2008 tax filing. That means you won't pay on it. [but won't you have to add it as income? and what about the interests? ]

I guess that's something to not worry about, according to what I've read. Although the last time something like this went out, money to the masses to stimulate the economy, it (the economy) wasn't as bad then, if you received the money, your tax refund was minus whatever the amount you received then, so who knows!

A lot of suggestions are being made, cash the check and spend the money; don't cash the check; save it for a rainy day - although if you do that, how does that help the flailing economy?  One person even suggested buying everyone elses checks and save them for the future when they will be worth a lot more! Is he serious?! [sorry I didn't copy the link so you could read it for yourself!]   Some have suggested to pay off your bills; go out and buy that big screen TV; go on vacation....the sky is the limit, apparently!

I've also read that we should make sure the money is spent within the US and kept 'floating' in the US.  We should make sure to support those small businesses that will need the extra cash flow! That means go support your local or on line small business!

Whatever you do, do it with some sense of knowing where it goes when you're spending. That means, don't go crazy and then you end up asking yourself, 'where did it go, what did I buy?'   Otherwise having it would be in vain wouldn't it?!

I'm planning to use a bit for down paying some bills, then get the kids school supplies and clothing for the new school year (that means an outfit or two each including shoes/sneakers. Then I'm gong to do the one best thing I have been wanting to do but never got around to...no, not go on vacation although I wish I could just close my eyes and do that!  I'm going to invest in some equipment that I need for my entrepreneurial endeavor!  Yes, that's the best present for myself right there!  And for my family in the long run too!  So it's only about, lets see, 600 + 300 + 300...wait, add another 600....hmm, not a lot per say, but definitely a whole lot more than I've been able to hold on to lately with all the gas prices and food prices and not to mention every other cost that have gone skywards since last year!   My oldest will be getting her own since she filed her own taxes.  She will invest in her first used car!  Something she will be doing all by herself, except for the insurance which we have to help with!

So that's my plan folks. I'm going to get the money whether I like it or not, so I might as well use it right?!

YOu can Donate it to my Favorite Charity - Citizens Against Sick Horses (C.A.S.H. for short). Just endorse it over and send it to me.

It does seem to be a questionable exercise if your government can't afford to cash all the cheques they're giving out.  It will be interesting to see what happens if some go to cash their cheques only to be told there is not enough funds.

I'm just gonna save mine. Like $1200 is gonna make any real difference in our lives.

I think the economy would of been better served (maybe -I'm certainly no economic whiz) if they would have just deducted the same amount off the federal gasoline tax.

I am not running out and spending ours....we don't need anything and I'm not going to spend money just because I have it.  That's stupid and boring.

I will eventually spend it though.  We have some big ticket items coming up in the next several months (college for me) so it will be used, eventually.

I clip coupons too Donna, but they really don't go that far do they?  I usually save about $10-$15 a trip.  Which covers my tip to the bagger and gas to get there I guess.  But I wouldn't walk past fifteen dollars on the street without picking it up, so might as well use the coupons.

I think things are going to get worse before they get better...just buckle in and get ready for the ride.

Oh yes sir!  So make it out to, Mr. P. Wanna get that thought out of your head?LOL!

Oh sure darling!  Just let me have the information for your [ahem] bank account and I will be sure to [ahem] deposit it pronto!lol!

I know!  Ha, that would be interesting if those checks can't be cashed!  The bank would come back to each of us and demand a pay back + fees!!lol!

It's good to save it.  But I agree that it would better serve the point of receiving it if some of it is spent and some of it is saved.  Spending it all at one go is pointless, but doing it wisely and really seeking out the American made items, or small businesses, would be the best thing all around. (sorry if it sounds like I'm preaching!)

$1200 is not a lot to most, but it is to some and it's really a help to those who will need it with all the higher costs of gas and all that.

I think the economy would of been better served (maybe -I'm certainly no economic whiz) if they would have just deducted the same amount off the federal gasoline tax.

Me neither and that is what I would think too.  But I've read that it wouldn't do us any good, just the people who own the oil companies.  They would see the savings, not us, not the little man who owns the gas station...and not to mention the investors in the oil companies!

Congrats!  We've been talking about going back to school on my end too, both of us.

I am not running out and spending ours.

Good for you!  I will hold ours for about a week, if I'm lucky!  My hubby is the spendthrift and I'm the money-bag lady who hangs on for dear life until I have to do it! LOL!  Can you tell how much we disagree when it comes to spending?!  Geech!

Yep!  Sometimes it's difficult to find a coupon for what you really want too! But every little bit helps!

I know!  Our budget at work has been slashed even more!  Let me tell you, we're sweating!  But hanging in there!  Today my daughter wanted a dollar for candy, I told her nope, I have to slash the budget, no more candy!LOL! She mumbled and accepted it...much like so many of us have to do uh - mumble and accept it?!

It does doesn't it?! Me and you both girl! As much as I wear glasses, new ones too, I'm finding myself having to squint sometimes!  Age, that's it...cough, cough....

We will be saving ours since we're still trying to get back on our feet from the move.

Heh, and I don't know about trusting a "gift" from the gov't.
May 2, 2008 13:14:26

I don't get any money from the government.

See? You have too big of a tax cut! You should get less than nothing!

I know what you mean! Somehow, someway, it's going to come back and bite us!  Now that I'm thinking about it, letting it sit might be a good thing, just to be sure!lol!

Consider yourself very lucky!lol!

But they pay taxes too so their should be something, shouldn't it?!

Not according to the democrats.

Well, I kind see one of the primary roles of government as to protect people and their possessions. If you have more to protect, shouldn't you pay more for protection?

They already do. It is called a progressive tax. But the democrats demigogue it to make some think they dont pay any, or not enough. Brad made a challenge to one here, that he pays more in taxes than the guy earns. I suspect that is true, and I know he pays more than get in salary. There comes a time when enough is enough. I am middle class, yet I am not getting the full kick. And yet, my last check that had some extra compensation on it? Almost 50% of that extra was taken for taxes.

I'm probably in a similar boat to you. I always try to be able to be thankful that I am making enough to complain about taxes in the first place.

Ours will be going to pay bills....namely, utilities. But also to get our house payment back in order (we are not technically late....yet....)

Good for you! Most joe's out there would love the opportunity to do that too! Then again, I can't speak for them, there are the few will complain that they are paying too much!
